野人花园是一个二人组合，乐队由主唱Darren和吉他手兼键盘手Daniel组成。 两个来
自澳大利亚布里斯班的年轻人在1993年时走到了一起 ， 起初Daniel原来所在的乐队正缺少
一名主唱，于是他在附近的酒馆里张贴了一张招聘广告，这张广告吸引来了Darren， 他和
20多名应聘者一起参加了面试， 他是最后一个出场，可能是太紧张了，他唱歌时声音沙哑
而且走了调。 但是Daniel却偏偏看上了他， 觉得他就是自己要找的人。Darren加入了Dani
el的乐队，开始演唱别人的歌曲，在相处中这两个人越来越投机 ， 尤其是在音乐上他们总
能找到共同的感受，这促使他们创作了第一首他们自己的歌曲： “A Thousand Word”，这
首歌曲的成功给他们带来了强烈的鼓舞和激情，终于他们离开了原来的乐队组成了自己的乐
队。
Darren很喜欢读Anne Rice的小说，其中在一本名为《吸血鬼编年史》的小说中，作者
把这个世界描述为一个野人的花园，于是Savage Garden作为他们乐队的名字就这样得来了
。
野人花园在一开始创作歌曲时就把目光投向了欧美流行音乐界，于是他们创作出了第一
支单曲“I Want You”， 这首歌曲充满了80年代的欧洲流行歌曲的韵味，而且带着一种别
具风格的清新感觉。 在创作这首歌曲的时候他们的灵感就一发不可收拾，紧接着他们又作
出 "To the Moon & back"，这首歌曲讲述了一个女孩得不到人间亲情与父母关心之后
幻想跟自己喜爱的人奔赴月球生活的伤感故事；和"Break me，shake me"这首深沉而疯狂的
摇滚歌曲；还有"Truly，madly，deeply"，这首是在他们外出时写给Darren的妻子Colby的
歌曲。
创作之后他们开始把自己的成果宣传出去，他们给当地的数家音乐台寄去了他们的单曲
“I want You”，终于有一天， 一家电台播放了这首歌曲，这使他们兴奋不已，接着数家
电台都开始播放， 最后这首歌排上了澳洲歌曲榜首的地位。他们下一个目标就是美国榜，
由于他们开始创作时就把目标定位在整个欧美流行乐界，因此，“I Want You”一下就排到
了BillBoard的Top10的位置，紧接着“To the moon & back” 也取得了同样的好成绩
，“Truly，madly，deeply”以它优美的旋律更是在美国榜上争取到了第一的位置。 后来
这首歌曲在1998年的世界榜上排名第二，仅次于歌后Cillion Dion的“My heart will go o
n”这首由于好莱坞一个大片而走红的歌曲。
